Knit Fabric Panels
Sewing with Knit Fabric Panels
Knit Fabric panels can be intimidating. They come if different sizes and dimensions and generally have a graphic designed to be at the center of your project. We offer both custom Knit Fabric panels and some from other knit fabric brands. Shop all of our panels HERE.
Our panel selection is generally cotton lycra fabric - 95% cotton, 5% lycra - but you should check each listing to make sure. A fairly standard size panel is 14" x 18":
At times, KnitFabric.com also offers some double wide Knit Fabric panels. These are intended to give you enough knit fabric for the front AND back of your sewing project.
Knit Fabric panels are just like any other piece of fabric but there's a couple thoughts.
(1) How to Center Your Knit Fabric Panel graphic:
First, trace out your full pattern piece:
Second, lay the Knit Fabric panel over your fabric so it's centered:
Third, cut the knit fabric.
(2) What can I Use a Knit Fabric Panel for?
Anything you want! Let your creative juices flow. Many sewists use knit fabric panels for t-shirts, pajama tops, a dress bodice, etc.
(3) What if my Knit Fabric Panel is too small?
You might try color blocking with additional fabric. Here's a couple blog posts that go into more detail: (1) Color Blocking with Knit Fabric 101, and (2) Turn a Basic Graphic Tee into a Fun Pieced Dress of Top.
Another option is to start with a sewing pattern that includes color blocking. There are a few at Peekaboo Pattern Shop that are good options including the Boardwalk, Maui Muscle Tee, and Twist and Shout.
